P-shaped bath

Started by: ena malcup (4151)

AKA Shower Bath.

Having to turn my thoughts to equipping a new bathroom.

Want to have all facilities in this, so thinking would combining bath and shower this way be helpful to avoid the sensation of overcrowding and create a sense of spacious environment?

OK, I know you can instal a shower over a normal bath, but in my experience this usually results in insufficient elbow room, shower curtains having a tendency to cling to you, etc.

So, the obvious advantage of the P shape is more room, and replacing curtain with fixed screen in the curved area.

Anyone have experience of these?

Please tell me of any disadvantages.

We had one fitted a year or so ago.

No downsides at all. We opted not to have it fully enclosed but had a hinged screen that only covers the curved part of the bath (the bottom chrome bit on your picture). It's less intrusive/confining we think.

Wasteful I know, but we did in fact buy the full enclosure bit but dumped it after deciding against it. No regrets on our part, but everyone to their own, they obviously make them for a reason.

It works well and fully contains all the water.

We had one of these a few years ago, I think it came from BnQ we didn't have the full screen. The curved part at the front was more than sufficient and worked well.
Due to mobility issues we now have a big shower instead.

Thanks, davey. I am, myself, 'gettin on a bit', so had been bearing in mind mobility considerations. OK so far, but these things do sneak up on folk.

To be fair we don't miss the bath and the size of the shower means that there is room for a disability chair. Things changed quite quickly so we were glad we made the decision beforehand.
Its something to seriously consider whilst remodelling.

Nothing to contribute re: the shower, but I was just wondering, Ena. How are the rest of your refurbishments going in your house?

I found that to be a very interesting thread.

Woe is me.

Had to pause everything last November on account of health issues. I was not even well enough to take up my invitation to spend Christmas with one of my closest friends, in The Pennines.)

Long awaited appointment for Vascular surgery in next few weeks, so looking to get all started up again.

(Just hope that I bounce back with a quick recovery, and not a long drawn out convalescence, or deterioration.)

Yes, I do remember you were having health issues, and you had a sore foot.

Good luck with your vascular surgery. Is that to be on your foot? Not a nice operation and I'm sure there will be a period of convalescence, but you're a tough cookie.

Thanks mollie,

Got a few issues.

Never give up though, will always redouble my efforts.

To avoid blood pooling in my feet, (Same DVT risk we hear of with long haul flights) I am advised to sleep with my feet raised.

To avoid digestion related problems (GERD/Hiatus Hernia) I am advised to sleep on an incline with my shoulders higher than my hips.

Now I know that you can get fancy (and expensive) beds which can be made to take on such shapes.

I am wondering if sleeping in a hammock would help?

Ena Yvonne has a electrical adjustable bed with an air mattress .She has pressure sores on both legs and her right toes and she lies with her legs up and her head slightly upright to help her oxygen levels. This bed was supplied by the Council via Adult social services

The 'P' is silent, as in 'bath'.
